TRAI New OTP Rule: Are you also a Jio, Airtel, Vi or BSNL user and troubled by fraud messages? If yes then there is nothing to worry about now. Actually, Telecom Regulatory Authority of India i.e. TRAI is going to implement a new rule from tomorrow i.e. 11th December. TRAI had recently announced the introduction of ‘Message Traceability’ rule, which is going to be implemented from tomorrow 11th December.
Earlier it was said that this rule will come into effect from December 1, 2024. But while giving information about this, TRAI said that its deadline has been extended. This rule has been specially made to stop fake and unauthorized messages.
Know what is this new rule?
TRAI has said that from December 11, 2024, no such message will be accepted, which does not use the number series prescribed by telemarketers. After this change, the traceability of messages will be good and it will be easy to track and block fake links or fraudulent messages.
Why was the deadline postponed in the first place?
This rule was to come into effect from December 1, 2024, but due to lack of preparations, it has now been postponed till December 10. TRAI has instructed telemarketers and institutions to update their number series as soon as possible.
How will this new rule work?
Actually, after the implementation of the new rule, messages without valid series will be automatically rejected. We will crack down on fake messages sent by banks, companies or other telemarketers and efforts will be made to reduce fraud through spam calls and fraudulent messages.
Fake links are used for cyber fraud
Cyber fraudsters often use fake links to cheat. They pretend to be bank officials and try to steal personal details. This new rule will help in curbing such scammers. After the implementation of this rule, you will not receive any fake OTP.
